THE WEST HORNDON VISION IS A VISION FOR THE COMMUNITY OF TODAY, AND THE FUTURE

WORKING WITH THE LANDSCAPE

The vision for West Horndon is landscape driven, providing both formal and informal recreational facilities and reintroducing the ancient fenland landscape.

The traditional Horndon fenland landscape can be reclaimed through introducing key connections, including a new bridge over the A127 providing an extension to Thorndon Country Park and creation of new wetland habitats, cycle ways and pathways for the benefit of residents and the wider community.

West Horndon is located within a variety of landscape characters, including the Thames Chase Community Forest. Through considered development our vision for West Horndon seeks to realise the Thames Chase Community Forest objectives of providing enhanced ‘connected woodland and green space’.

THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY

EASL’s proposals and vision for West Horndon will complement the redevelopment of the Industrial Estate, ensuring maximum benefits for the existing and new community.

Through providing homes for Brentwood and Thurrock, the proposals for West Horndon will create a central community hub, featuring public open space and easy access to transportation and other facilities.

With more homes comes greater investment in infrastructure:

  • A new transport interchange with integrated rail and bus services enhancing the connections north to Brentwood and south to Thurrock
  • New employment opportunities
  • A new primary school and secondary
  • Medical facilities
  • Community shops
  • Community green open space, with parks and sports facilities
  • Enhanced pedestrian connections to the wider landscape context
